The whitemargin unicornfish, also known as the ringtailed unicornfish or short-horned unicorn-fish, is a tropical fish found throughout the Indo-Pacific. It can reach a length of 100 cm, making it one of the largest members of the family Acanthuridae.

Easily confused with
Side by side, with what tells them apart.
Both grow a long horn in front of the eyes. Spotted Unicornfish has a near-vertical snout under the horn, thin dark vertical lines on the flanks that break into spots lower down, a spotted head, and a mostly whitish tail. Whitemargin Unicornfish is plain blue-grey with no markings, white lips, and a dark tail with a thin white margin.

Both are plain blue-grey unicornfish. Bluespine Unicornfish has only a short horn, and two bright blue spines on each side of the tail base. Whitemargin Unicornfish grows a long horn that juts out ahead of the snout, has white lips and a white margin on the tail, and at up to 1 m it is the largest unicornfish.
