The chevron butterflyfish, also known as chevroned butterflyfish, triangulate butterflyfish or V-lined butterflyfish, is a species of marine ray-finned fish, a butterflyfish belonging to the family Chaetodontidae. It has a wide Indo-Pacific distribution.

Easily confused with
Side by side, with what tells them apart.
Both are covered in forward-pointing chevrons. Chevron Butterflyfish is elongate and pale, with thin dark chevrons, and its tail is black with a yellow rear margin. Eastern Triangle Butterflyfish is deep-bodied, almost triangular, banded in alternating cream and grey-brown to purple chevrons, with three dark bars on the head.

Both are pale with dark chevrons pointing forward. Merten's Coralfish turns orange-yellow over the rear of the body and the tail, and its eye bar runs over the nape without a break. Chevron Butterflyfish stays pale to the tail base, and the tail itself is black with a yellow margin.
