The mirror butterflyfish or oval-spot butterflyfish is a species of butterflyfish. It is found in the Indo-Pacific region from Indonesia to Japan and south to the Great Barrier Reef and Papua New Guinea. The species has also been reported from Madagascar, Mauritius and Réunion.

Easily confused with
Side by side, with what tells them apart.
Both are yellow with a single large black spot below the dorsal fin. Bluelashed Butterflyfish's spot is ringed in blue, its eyestripe is edged with two blue lines, and two curved blue lines run above the belly. Mirror Butterflyfish has no blue anywhere: a plain black blotch and a plain black eye bar.

Both carry one big black spot high on the flank and a black bar through the eye. Mirror Butterflyfish is yellow all over and its spot is a rounded blotch. Teardrop Butterflyfish is white below, with the yellow kept to the back and fins; its spot drips downward like a teardrop, and a second black band crosses the rear of the body from the dorsal to the anal fin.
