Monotaxis grandoculis, commonly known as the humpnose big-eye bream, bigeye barenose, bigeye bream, bigeye emperor, grand-eyed porgy fish, humpnose sea-bream, large-eye bream, mu or roundtooth large-eye bream, is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Lethrinidae, the emperors and emperor breams. This species is found in the Indian and Pacific Ocean.

Easily confused with

Side by side, with what tells them apart.

They were long counted as one species. Both are silvery grey with a big eye and a black blotch at the base of the pectoral fin, and both can show dark bars on the back. On Humpnose Big-eye Bream the pale gaps between those bars are three or four scale rows wide, and its young have a black bar through the eye. Redfin Emperor's pale bars are thin, one or two scale rows wide, its fins are tinged yellow to red, and its young have no bar through the eye.
