Two pale cardinalfish with one dark stripe along the side and a dark spot at the tail base, both hiding under ledges by day. In Narrowstripe Cardinalfish the stripe is narrow and tapering, and the tail spot sits slightly above it, barely touching the lateral line. In Spurcheek Cardinalfish the spot is centred on the stripe itself; it can fade in deep water, at night or in the afternoon.
