Both are blue above and white below, with one yellow stripe along the flank. Blue and Gold Fusilier's stripe is gold, two or three scales wide, and bordered above and below by a thin white to pale blue line, and a black streak runs along the middle of each tail lobe, like scissors. One-stripe Fusilier's stripe is only about one scale wide, and its dusky tail is black only at the tips of the lobes.

Both are slim blue-green fusiliers with yellow lines, schooling in midwater. Double-lined Fusilier has two thin yellow lines, one along the upper back and one along the middle of the flank, just below the lateral line. One-stripe Fusilier has a single yellow stripe, about one scale wide, lying on the lateral line itself. Both have black tips on the tail lobes.
