Both are ringed in black and white. Zebra Moray is dark brown crossed by many narrow white rings, has a short, rounded snout and a thick body, and keeps to crevices and ledges. Banded Snake Eel is white with broad black bands, far slimmer, with a pointed snout, and it hunts across open sand and seagrass by day -- a harmless copy of the highly venomous banded sea krait.
