Both are long, thin hunters with a tube for a snout. Bluespotted Cornetfish is slimmer still, blue- to green-grey with thin blue lines of dots on the back, and its tail ends in a long, whip-like filament; it reaches 1.6 m. Chinese Trumpetfish is deeper and flattened side to side, with a small barbel under the chin, a row of separate spines along the back and one or two black spots on the tail -- and it may be brown, mottled or bright yellow.
