Malacanthus brevirostris, the quakerfish, flagtail blanquillo, false whiting or stripetail tilefish, is a species of marine ray-finned fish, a tilefish belonging to the family Malacanthidae. It has a wide Indo-Pacific distribution.

Easily confused with

Side by side, with what tells them apart.

Two long, slim tilefish that hover over sand near their burrows. Blue Blanquillo has a blue head and a broad black stripe along the middle of the body into the tail, and reaches 50 cm. Flagtail Blanquillo is grey above and white below, with a row of short dark bars along the side, often a yellowish forehead, and two black stripes that converge in the middle of the tail; it stays around 32 cm.
